National Blood Alcohol Level To Be Lowered

This week the National Transportation Safety Board recommended that the blood alcohol level threshold used to determine whether someone is legally drunk be lowered from .08 to .05 nationwide.

However, Arizona already has some of the toughest DUI laws in the country. Even if an Arizona motorist has a blood alcohol level below .08, they can still be sited for DUI.

According to M.A.D.D., thanks to those tough DUI laws, the number of drunk driving deaths in Arizona has dropped nearly 46% since 2007.

Many believe that one of the reasons for the decrease in DUI fatalities is a mandatory requirement for first time Arizona DUI offenders to have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle for six months that requires them to blow into a breathalyzer before their car will start.
