How A Drunk Driving Conviction Affects Car Insurance

A drunk driving conviction can not only cost you in terms of criminal penalties, fines and fees, but in most states your auto insurance can increase for as many as seven years after the conviction. In Arizona, DUI law requires the suspension of driving privileges for a minimum of 90 days, and in order to get your driving privileges back you may need a special type of insurance called SR22. SR22 is not actually the insurance but a statement that your insurance company is willing to insure you after the DUI. This type of insurance is not only costly, but may be hard to acquire.

Hit and Run DUI Leaves Phoenix Man Dead

Phoenix police recently arrested a man that was accused of fatally injuring a pedestrian while driving under the influence of alcohol. A police spokesman, Stephen Martos, said that 66-year-old Vernon Traylor was driving southbound down Phoenix Street in his Ford Mustang. At around 9 p.m. he collided with a pedestrian, 53-year-old Ruben Jimenez Solis and drove away from the scene. Solis was taken to the hospital where he quickly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Traylor was found to be intoxicated and booked into a cell at Maricopa County jail on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crime. Prosecutors may choose to charge Traylor with manslaughter.

10 Things That Can Happen if You Get a DUI

Arizona DUI laws are rather harsh and unyielding. The State of Arizona has enacted laws that prohibit a person from driving when that person has a Blood Alcohol Concentration or BAC of .08 percent or higher. This measurement is now considered the standard for per se DUI by all 50 states. However, it may be difficult to determine how much alcohol a person can consume before he or she reaches a BAC of .08.
