How Much Does A DUI Cost?

You may have heard someone say that a first-time DUI offense can end up costing you ten thousand dollars. Is that really true? If so, is there any way to lower the cost of a DUI?

Alex Lane in Phoenix is ready to help you with your DUI charges. Alex Lane has years of experience and can help you find the most cost-effective way to deal with your DUI.

A Breakdown Of The Cost

A first-offense DUI conviction in Arizona has a base fine of $250. This does not seem like much until you start adding in the other costs associated with a DUI conviction, even for a first-time offense.

Even if your case is relatively simple, you can add in the following additional costs:

Bail: Between $185 and $5,000 depending on the severity of your charges

Court Costs: Between $25 and $1,500. Your court costs will be determined by the court in which you are tried and whether you go to trial or plead guilty immediately. The longer your case continues, the higher your court costs will be.

DUI Fines: In addition to the base $250, you can have up to $1,600 in local DUI fees.

DUI classes in alcohol education: Between $50 and $185 depending on the length of the class and where it is held.

So far, the total can add up to as much as $7,035. However, this does not include the cost of an ignition interlock device if one is mandated for your vehicle, fees for having your license reinstated or lost time at work due to your charges. It is easy to see that the total cost of your DUI can creep up to $10,000 without much difficulty.

How Can I Lower The Cost of a DUI?

Many people think of paying attorney’s fees and believe they can save money by handling the case themselves. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually true. When you take on the job of defending your own DUI case, you may actually spend more money than if you hire a competent DUI attorney. This is because a DUI attorney can help you lower the overall cost of your DUI significantly by helping you avoid certain fines and fees.

Alex Lane, a DUI defense attorney in Phoenix, may be able to help you avoid many of the fees and costs associated with a DUI. Contact him today for more information.
